With the start of the summer movie season just over a month away, it’s time to take a look at some of the most exciting films of the summer, starting with the top five comedies. Whether each will ultimately deliver the laughs, the previews make these films look extremely promising.
Please note: all trailers are of the Red Band Variety. Please use discretion when at work or around sensitive individuals.
#1: SNATCHED (May 12)
Technically being released before the start of the movie season, it wouldn’t be fair to leave off one of the 1980’s best comedic talents, Goldie Hawn, joining the hottest female comedian today, Amy Schumer, in this mother-daughter comedy. After being dumped by her boyfriend, Schumer convinces her mother to tag along on a vacation previously planned with her now ex-boyfriend when disaster strikes and hilarity ensues. This red band trailer (translation: NSFW) includes one of my favorite spit takes in movie history.
#2: BAYWATCH (May 26)
Kicking off the start of official summer movie season, Dwayne Johnson heads a loose movie adaptation of the iconic television series. With more action and more laughs than the TV series, fans are most likely in for a treat with what will most likely be the first of many future Baywatch films. Check out the red band trailer (once again, NSFW) above.
#3: THE LITTLE HOURS (June 30)
With one of the most promising casts in a comedy, this trailer starts so sweet and honest and then…BAM! Try not to laugh at this red band trailer (looks like a trend here, this too is NSFW) about, I believe, three horny nuns (it’s hard to tell what this film is ultimately about). If I were Catholic, I feel like I would need to ask for forgiveness after writing about horny nuns, lol. It is safe to say that this movie will not be for the faint of heart…and those very religious.
#4: GIRLS TRIP (July 21)
Four friends go to New Orleans for some fun…what could go wrong? Starring the always amazing Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith playing the straight woman to Latifah, Regina Hall, and newcomer, Tiffany Haddish, the red band trailer (yep, you guessed it, NSFW) looks like a movie that will bring laughs regardless of race and gender.
#5: THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD (Aug 18)
What do you get when you put America’s most profitable movie star, Samuel L. Jackson, with Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds? Potentially the best buddy comedy in years. Reynolds stars as the bodyguard for one of the most notorious hitmen (Jackson). For those not a fan of cursing, you may want to find a Disney movie as this red-band trailer (come on now, you know by now that this is something to watch away from work) shows Jackson at his typically hilarious angry best.
