18 Dinosaur Species
Do yourself a favor and experience Universal’s marketing campaign for Jurassic World firsthand. It’s original and awesome. Upon closer inspection of the “visitor’s guide”, patrons get a glimpse of over 18 dinosaur species on Isla Nublar:
The most notable species to be on the lookout for are Indominus Rex (D-Rex), whose name translates into “Untamable King.” That should be enough to tell you what to expect in this movie.
Winston’s Steak House
Being a huge fan of Stan Winston, this Easter Egg was a welcome surprise. During shots of the Jurassic World “Boardwalk” you’ll see a restaurant called “Winston’s”. This is an obvious nod to the animatronics wizard who brought to life the dinosaurs in Spielberg’s original film.
Ben & Jerry’s Extinction
Ben & Jerry’s sets up shop on Isla Nublar selling/advertising their world famous Fossil Fuel flavor ice cream. However, according to the official Ben & Jerry website, that particular flavor has been extinct since 2010, never to return. Not so much an Easter Egg as it is funny, but there you have it.
Chaos Theory Still Applies
Remember Ian Malcolm’s (Jeff Goldblum) chaos theory as applied to Jurassic Park? Due to unforeseen circumstances and possible error, you can’t predict the outcome of bringing dinosaurs back to life. We all know how that ended. In Jurassic World, Lowrey (Jake Johnson) makes a reference to chaos theory. Better than that though…we also catch a glimpse of Ian Malcom’s book, “God Creates Dinosaurs”. If you can remember, Dr. Malcolm uses this phrase while taking a ride through the original park. The entire quote: “God creates dinosaurs. God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man. Man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs.” Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) wittily replies, “Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the earth.”
