Not to mention shopping! I loathe shopping in malls and department stores because they never have the type of clothing I like but within the dress shops I found myself willing to spend a small fortune to dress like a hand maiden (I would modernize each outfit so I could wear them in my every day life) but sadly this year I could not afford to spend hundreds of dollars on a whim, I am already planning for next year. Not a dress person? You’re in luck because they sell everything from candles to necklaces, fairy wings, and hand crafted journals! These are not cheap gifts in monetary value or worth. One would bestow these gifts to friends and or family that mean the absolute most to them!
My current Netflix binge is the show Merlin and what an apt time to do so! Having just finished season one it was like the set was brought to life and I was mightily excited when I saw Pendragon Costume Shop! With the beautiful warm colored trees as a back drop, the very ambiance of the festival came together as you really feel like you have left the 21st century.
Having never seen a jousting before I was thoroughly entertained in a way that WWE viewers are pleased (jousting is better in my opinion). The movements were deliberate and exaggerated but that’s what I loved about it! It was all in good fun but they put on a great show. The audience was really in to it so I was really in to it, cheering on the young man on my side of the arena.
After eating an obligatory turkey leg my friend and I came across the fairy dust table where we had the dust sprinkled on us and were asked to make a wish! I had already seen signs for mermaids so I was equally if not more excited to see a fairy booth and imagine my surprise when right behind it was an entire forest of enchanted fairy houses each one as unique as it’s neighbors! People (fairies) must spend hours creating these little delightful little homes. Some took a classic forest route while others had modern duplexes with glass ceilings. The contrasts and details alone had me spending a considerable amount of time staring at each little palace.
Ending in the front corridors I was blown away by how many details I missed the first go around (I was too mesmerized and just wanted to get in). The weather was typical Michigan weather in that it was completely unpredictable and changed it’s mind every two seconds. As the rain started to hit we dashed underneath one of the overheads where I was able to take some of my favorite photos. The fountain, the vines sneaking up the sides of buildings, and “The Enchanted Garden of the Royal Frog” were simply a bonus in the ethereal euphoric state I was already in. All in all this has got to be one of my favorite annual events that allows you to completely embrace all your nerdoms (I was wearing my “I want to believe” X-Files shirt and so many people commented). Almost like Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Comic Con, or a Star Wars festival. I find that people that embrace and proclaim their passions so wholeheartedly are the best kind of people out there.
